Paul MacDermid

Mailed out: Undocumented
Returned: November 26, 2014
return #111

Drafted by the Whalers it took Paul MacDermid four seasons of bouncing in the minors to catch on with Hartford full time. MacDermid played in 960 for the Whalers, Jets, Capitals, and Nordiques racking up 258 points, and 1303 penalty minutes before a back injury ended his career.

Tom Fergus

Mailed out: October 24, 2014
Returned: November 25, 2014
Return #110

Drafted in 1980 by the Boston Bruins Tom Fergus, he took no time jumping into the line up for the 1981-1982 season putting up 39 points. His numbers continued to grow over the next couple seasons, and then the Bruins traded Fergus to the Maple Leafs. He would continue to light it up in Toronto until a groin injury derailed his career, and never regained his scoring touch. Fergus would go on to play for the Canucks, and then in the Swiss league before calling it a career.

Returned: November 19, 2014
c/o Red Deer Rebels - return #107

Last week I received my ebay purchase of Brent Sutter for my 1991-1992 O Pee Chee collection, today I got my ttm attempt back. The first round pick of the Islanders in 1980, he joined a very strong club, Sutter made it to the cup finals in his first 3 seasons, hoisting the cup twice. Sutter would go on to play for the Blackhawks where he would lead the cup to the 1992 Stanley Cup finals. Sutter is currently the head coach of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels.

Tom Gilbert

Mailed out: September 23, 2014
Returned: November 10, 2014
c/o Canadiens - return #95

Initially drafted by the Colorado Avalanche Tom Gilbert would be traded to the Edmonton Oilers along with a couple draft picks in exchange for star fan favourite Tommy Salo. Gilbert switched from forward to defence during his senior year of high school transitioning into a trusted two way player. He would play four strong campaigns with the University of Wisconsin Madison before joining the Edmonton Oilers.

In 1973 Pat Hickey was selected 18th overall by the WHA's Toronto Toros, and 30th overall by the NHL's New York Rangers. In 1975 he would leave the WHA to join the New York Rangers, during the 1977-78 season Hickey netted a career high 40 goals. He went on to play with the Rockies, Leafs, Nordiques. Gary Veneruzzo

Mailed out: October 20, 2014
Returned: November 6, 2014
return #91

Gary Veneruzzo was tolling around on the the Leafs farm team when the Blues took him in the expansion draft. While with the Blues Gary got his shot in the NHL playing in 7 games with the big club, he would soon leave the NHL for the rival WHA. Gary included a note responding to my questions, unreal to think he still has the puck from his first NHL goal from the 1967-1968 season.

Brent Ashton

Returned: September 16, 2014
Mailed out: October 17, 2014
Return #82

Brent Ashton holds the record, with Mike Sillinger for being the most traded player in NHL history. Ashton was drafted 26th overall by the Canucks in 1979 and made their roster that season, he struggled to find ice time and was traded two seasons later to Colorado. He played for New Jersey, Minnesota, Quebec, Winnipeg, Boston, and Calgary. He's the father of Maple Leaf Carter Ashton.

The card I sent to Brent came back with a sticky note that he doesn't sign it, but included two others. Anyone know why he doesn't sign his 1991-1992 O Pee Chee card?

Anson Carter

Mailed out: September 5, 2014
Returned: October 7, 2014
33 days - Return #71

I was thrilled to see that Anson Carter was signing autographs at the Oilers locker room sale this past summer as I grew up loving Anson and his dreads as an Oiler, unfortunately it happened to be the same day as a previous commitment and by the time I got there they had cut off the line. So I decided to TTM Mr Carter, and it came back today. My sase was marked 1 hockey card on the front which seemed odd, further more the signature on the front and the back look different from his authentic signatures. Decide for yourself, is this the real deal or ghost signed?

Dennis Kearns

Mailed out: September 26, 2014
Returned: October 6, 2014
c/o home - 11 days - Return #70

Dennis Kearns rights were held by the Chicago Blackhawks, with the team being deep at defence Denis played four seasons with the WHL's Portland Buckaroos. While in Portland Kearns racked up 117 points and picked up second, and first all star team honours in 1969, and 1970. He would go on to play one more season in the minors, this time with the CHL's Dallas Black Hawks where he would rack up 52 points, and another first all star team honour. With his offensive talents budding, and Chicago's blue line still as crowded as it was five seasons ago the team left him unprotected and the Vancouver Canucks picked him up. He exploded onto Vancouver's blue line, and for the next ten seasons he showed the hockey world why The Hockey News called him the "Dennis Potvin of the west".

He took the time to answer my question of what was his most memorable moment as a NHL pro:

Robert Dirk

Mailed Out: September 26, 2014
Returned: October 6, 2014
c/o home - 11 days - return #69

Dirk was originally drafted by the Blues but never caught on full time with the team until they traded him away to the Canucks. That's where his size stuck out and he stayed on their blue line full time, he would later go on to play for the Blackhawks, Ducks, and Canadiens.

Frank Breault

Mailed Out: September 15
Returned: October 6, 2014
c/o home 22 days Return #68

Frank Breault dressed in 17 NHL games for the kings in 90-91 where he would rack up 5 points, the following season he was included as a top prospect for the  O-Pee-Chee hockey card set. Breault would only go on to play another 10 games for the Kings, he spent the majority of the time playing in the IHL and AHL.

Dennis Ververgaert

Mailed Out: September 26, 2014
Returned: October 3, 2014
c/o home - 7 days - return #66

An amazing return from Canuck legend Dennis Ververgaert today. After a steller junior career with the London Knights the three year old Vancouver Canucks selected him 3rd overall in the draft. In 1976 he was selected to play in his first All Star game where he scored 2 goals in ten seconds, an all star game record, that was later broken by Owen Nolan. Ververgaerts card takes the cake for best facial hair.

Dean Kennedy

Mailed Out: September 23, 2014
Returned: October 1, 2014 -
c/o home -8 Days - return #65

A very fast return, from a player that was known to deliver crushing body checks.  During the 88/89 season Los Angeles shipped him off to the Rangers for a 16 game stint before being dealt back to the Kings in that same season.  I'm not to sure why Dean signed my card Ride em Loose but it adds to the card thats for sure!

Brian Propp

Mailed Out: September 16, 2014
Returned: October 1, 2014
c/o home - 15 days - return #64

Brian Propp is unfortunately known for appearing in 5 Stanley Cup Finals with out a series win. Another cool fact about Propp is that he took a season away from the NHL to play in Switzerland, he once again left North America during the NHL lock out to play in France but ended up retiring after that stint. Brian can be added to the list of players who get a gold star for keeping up with their fans; not only did Brian include some juicy extras, he used the toonie I included to cover postage, as well he took the time to rewrite out my self addressed envelope on a bigger one so that his bonus cards would fit.

Steven Finn

Mailed out: September 16, 2014
Returned: October 1, 2014
c/o home - return #63

During the 1990-1992 season Steven Finn and Joe Sakic shared the C on their jersey, in this card it's displayed beautifully. He spent the majority of his career with the Nordiques, and also played for the Lightning and Kings

Chris Nilan

Mailed out: September 17, 2014
Returned September 30, 2014
c/o the Knuckles band - 13 days - return #62

Nilan grew up in Boston idolizing the big bad Bruins, and dreamed of one day being on the team. While on my card he's playing for Boston, he got his break in the league playing for the Canadiens where he was a big time enforcer, he was a member of the 1986 cup team. He would later live out his dream of playing as a Bruin in 1990 for a couple seasons. You can check out some of Nilans best moments down below.

Darrin Shannon

Mailed Out: September 17, 2014
Returned: September 26, 2014
c/o home - 9 days - Return #60

Darrin Shannon was drafted 4th overall by the Penguins in a deep NHL draft, after a superb junior career with the Windsor Spitfires. He never suited up for the Pens though, Shannon was traded to the Sabres along with my last ttm return Doug Bodger. Again later on Shannon was delt to the Winnipeg Jets where he spent the majority of his NHL career, even moving with the team to Phoenix
