An undrafted free agent Desharnais was invited to the Canadiens 2007 training camp, he earned an assignment to their ECHL affiliate. He had an outstanding season; notching 106 points, adding another 33 in 22 playoff games, while leading the Cincinnati Cyclones to the Kelly Cup Championship. He would play a few more seasons in the minors before sticking with the Habs for good in 2010.
