At the age of 13 Stan Smyl left home to play hockey in British Columbia. He would play Junior A hockey with the Bellingham Blazers, after a remarkable playoff run he joined the WHLs New Westminter Bruins where he would appear in 3 Memorial Cup Championships, capturing the cup twice. He would fall to the third round in the 1978 draft where the Vancouver Canucks would select him. He spent his entire career with the Canucks wearing the C for eight seasons, while setting records for Canucks' all-time leader in games played, goals, assists and points.
